The town of Schuyler is in Albemarle County, a scenic and traffic-free 25-30 minutes from Charlottesville. Schuyler is nestled at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains and it is also close to national parks and forest preservation areas. Farms line the ride from Schuyler to Scottsville, a quaint country town about twelve minutes away. The actual town of Schuyler was made famous by Earl Hamner's TV and book series, "The Waltons."
Our home is nestled in a "green" community called The Quarries, a former soapstone mining site that returned to nature over the past few decades. All of our neighbors have agreed to use healthy, environmentally friendly building materials. They are also very committed to the idea of community. You will not find a nicer group of people who are happy to leave you with your privacy, just as they are delighted to befriend you. Most of our neighbors came from big cities, such as DC, New York, and Miami, looking for a quieter lifestyle and a private oasis. We regularly see deer, songbirds, owls, turkeys, bunnies, and other animals in our woods. You will enjoy the variety of trees and wildflowers during the different seasons, including abundant mountain laurel. Fortunately, the community maintains a common land and walking trails that lead to old quarries which make great swimming holes, should you get tired of swimming in your heated, hydrotherapy-jetted indoor pool.
Our home was featured in several publications and books, including "New Sustainable Homes" by James Grayson Trulove and on HGTV/Fine Living Channel's "What You Get for the Money" (a national home show, placing our home in the $700K category). Below, you will find links to area information, as well as our architect's website.
